NE1 Updates
NE1 Launch NE8 Metro.Press release 04 August 2011 Newcastle ONE Leisure (NE1) have launched their NE8 Metro service today to compliment their existing co-location and web hosting services.
NE8 Metro is a next generation point to point connectivity solution that also provides internet access at speeds much faster than traditional ADSL broadband services.
The NE8 service is available within most of Gateshead Centre and surrounding area's, including popular residential area's such as Ochre Yards and Curzon Place, NE8 is aimed at business users, the residential variant will be available shortly. It is hoped NE1 can reach a deal with house builders in the area to pre-wire new developments with industry standard CAT5e cabling to ease installation of these next generation services.
NE8 Metro is delivered over fibre optic networks managed by NE1 and G-ti. G-ti is a superfast and state of the art world-class fibre network as fast and reliable as any in the world. Delivered by Gateshead Council and Alcatel-Lucent the network allows businesses in Gateshead to operate at a superspeed of up to 10 Gigabits per second of bandwidth with a capability of delivering speeds in the region of 40 Gigabits per second to meet future demand.
G-ti cabling is being installed into the centre of a huge range of new developments in central Gateshead, both business and residential. NE8 Metro will be offering home owners the chance to wire their property into the superspeed network. Traditional ADSL Broadband is provided over the BT Openreach copper network, the ADSL signal deteriorates the further from the exchange the customer is, because NE8 Metro is delivered over fibre optic cabling, the signal does not deteriorate and speeds are guaranteed up to 1Gb per second.
ADSL providers usually provide a contended service with a ratio of between 20:1 (Business) and 50:1 (Residential), this allows them to aggregate capacity at the local telephone exchange and can result in slower throughput for ADSL users. If an ADSL user has a line speed of 10Mb, they may well have a throughput which is substantially lower. NE8 Metro does not operate on a contended service, end users who subscribe to 10Mb will achieve 10Mb.
Subscribers to the NE8 Metro service will also have the option to 'flex' their bandwidth, if a period of high usage is anticipated, the size of the internet connection can be increased with only four hours notice. Other value added services include Content Filtering, network management and server co-location.
The first business to sign up for the service is Keith Pattinson Estate Agents, who operate a call centre and office space on Hills Street, Gateshead. Keith Pattinson wanted a cost effective and flexible offering that would benefit them for many years. The NE8 Metro service allows Keith Pattinson's ICT Team to bolster their disaster recovery options at the same time as providing internet to a growing number of people in their Hills Street office.
